Organising a small living space is a challenge by itself. A few of these tips will do the trick. So, let’s de-clutter the clutter to transform our space into a cosy home.
Colour:
First things first. The colours we use for the interiors is best in light or pastel shades to give a spacious look. Areas that need to be highlighted can have contrast colour schemes or patterns.
Living Room:
In the living room, storage space must be used cleverly to provide comfort and maintain formality. Invest in sleek and convertible furniture that is both functional and comfortable. Convertible sofas or storage sofas can have room to keep curtains, cushions and cushion covers.
Built-in shelves and drawers within the coffee table can add to the style and keep the room clutter-free.
Vertical wall mounted shelves can save space and best showcase decorative pieces, photo frames, books, and magazines.
Corner tables can be both used for lamps and potted plants too. Smart storage baskets can be hidden underneath to store old magazines, remote controls, used candles, and not-be-seen collections.
Hanging shelves can look prettier by displaying your favourite pieces and figurines.
Dining Room:
All the furniture in the dining room can act as a storage unit. Whether it’s the dining table, the bar, the crockery cabinet or even the fridge. The dining table can have cabinets below that can store all utility items such as napkins, table covers and runners, flower vase, crockery and cutlery for the dining table. You can avoid investing in a separate crockery cabinet and use that space to place floating shelves or a cushioned bench.
Bedroom:
There is ample space underneath the bed that goes unnoticed or is often used as a place to dump things that you won’t be needing anytime soon. You can invest in a storage bed, which is the ultimate solution or try out some DIY hacks that’ll help you organise the space beneath your bed efficiently.
If your bedrooms are small, try to integrate storage in as many spots as possible—a cabinet instead of tables or floating drawers instead of shelves. Use your time to think about what really belongs to the bedroom and keep only those items you feel are absolutely necessary.
Kitchen:
Make the most of the cabinets and shelves. If you feel like a vertical cabinet is too tall to pile up, install a plank or a board to divide the cabinet in half. This way you’ll have more space to keep shorter items.
Another smart idea is to hang your kitchen tools. Your ladles, whisks, tongs etc., can be efficiently placed on the wall where they will be at your reach and won’t cause a mess in your drawers. Opt for clear containers over opaque ones because it will save you the time of rummaging through your cabinets to find what you need. Labelling the containers also help.
Bathrooms:
For the sake of a modern look, do not go for floating sinks without vanity space below. Cover up the area with cabinets or shelves, if you want it to feel airier. Carving out a niche in the wall is great way to use the wall space, giving you more area for storing your toiletries. Keep the place above the sink neat and tidy by organising items into trays. For your medicines, cabinets behind the mirror work best! You can also use hooks to hang towels and baskets.
